Ford Ranger Paintless Dent Repair Video

For anyone reading and watching this paintless dent removal repair I performed, I have to tell you, it was not easy. It took me 6 hours and 22 minutes to remove about 90-95% (In my opinion). The edge was jacked up! Any veteran pdr techs who have worked on Ford metal understand the level of difficulty it involved doing this dent. Of course I used heat to prevent the edge of the paint from completely cracking. From the beginning it already had paint cracked on the inside edge because of the initial impact.

Why I took this dent on was for two reasons. The forst reason I thought it would be pretty cool to test out my new camera rig - Canon 7D. Two, to keep myself learning and seeing how well I could get the edge out. Now I thought I could get it out closer to 100% but since the paint was blown already from the inside, I did not want to take a chance of it splitting any further. As mentioned, I used heat and a lot of it. I plan to talk about this dent in the Glue Pull Practicals dvd as well. Lots of awesome good stuff in there too!

This pdr dent repair tool me a lot longer than I thought and I could not get the same feel because I started too late and obviously finished too late. But I hope you enjoy the presentation of the video and perhaps learn something - even though I did not explain any techniques.

To succeed in this paintless dent repair business, you only need to learn one thing: how to keep learning. That means each of us is going to find ourselves as a newbie, at some times and at some things. In a market that is ever changing and in which these changes seem to be happening ever faster, we are all going to wear the newbie hat -- often.

I see too often a lot of veteran paintless dent removal / hail repair techs put down the pdr newbies. Unfortunately these so called "know it all's", forget that they were once newbies as well and still are. I also see pdr techs who have been in the business for just a short time, performing more complex dent repairs than a 10 year veteran pdr tech. Why? Simple: because high-level professionals who are paying attention never stop learning. And that means it don't matter how long you have been doing pdr. What you put into learning paintless dent removal is what you will get back 10 times fold. During my career, I have seen a lot of the first generation pdr companies fold and the only reason for this is because they stopped learning.

Cheap Paintless Dent Repair Training Beware

I am writing this article to future pdr trainees as a big warning. If you plan on going to a "paintless dent repair training school", then you really want to read this. My topics will be about the good, bad and the ugly.

Here is a clear warning - Listen to your head and weigh out what makes sense. I don't know if you realize this but PDR can not be learned correctly with more than one student at a time. OK, actually let me rephrase that because there have been miracles in this world that happen so I won't say impossible. If you want to get the most of a pdr training course, then you should settle no less for one on one pdr training. There should be no reason for more than one student unless the pdr school is in it for the money. The more students they can get in, the bigger and faster their pockets get. Also, you need to understand PDR is an art and takes a lot of patience. By no means is it easy at all. If you have heard that pdr can be learned in 1-2 weeks, you are in for a big, big surprise. Matter of fact, you will be getting just your feet wet. Imagine packing years of techniques into 2 FAST weeks? Oh but wait a minute.. I offer 2 week courses. Yes , but I will get to that later.

New Dent Time Site Ready to Launch May 22

Our Dent Time website has been in the remodel stages for awhile now. Finally after tons of hours and designing, we finally got it where we feel it will meet it's potential.

Although Dent Time will not be 100% complete when launched this Saturday, it will be quite an improvement from our current one.

Mercedes Benz Crease Dent Repair

Had a little challenge today and as always, wasn't sure if I could pull it off. I had to perform another crazy paintless dent removal on the body line of a Mercedes Benz ML in San Diego.

Thing about silver cars is when it has a deep dent like this, in most cases the metallic separates and looks white. I call it "ghosting" which can be somewhat unpleasing, especially after you have spent so much time removing the lion share of the dent. But I can't lie, it did ghost on me a bit. Here's a little tip on how to get rid of it: color sand (wet sand) after you remove the dent. Believe it or not, it helps remove 75% or more of the ghosting.

I also have been using my new toy (sticky pod mount) to get some good angles. You won't tell from my iPhone videos because I shot it using my Canon Vixia which I am going to cut a video in HD about the process later.
