Big Dent Repair - Paintless Dent Repair PDR Training -Removal

We give a little insight about our big dent repair PDR training manual. These type of dents are very difficult to achieve and take a lot of patience. Even though we teach this technique, it takes much practice to gain perfection during and after the learning process.

This particular dent required pressure to be relieved below the outside edges (crowns). As we released the pressure, the crown would become weaker and more manageable. If we tried to knock down the edges before pressing, we would create "tap down" pits which can actually create the repair process become more messy. We did not use a glue pull method because at the time, it was not an option. Either way, the crown and trapped pressure would need physical behind the panel pushing.

We used about 2-3 tools to push the dent out. One in particular was the the soft tip from Ultra Dent Tools. Beware though, a soft tip is not the answer to all big dent repairs. It should only be used to start a big dent to release pressure and then change to smaller and more accurate tool tip. We explain in detail about this in our Basic PDR Line Board Manual.

Dents are becoming more bigger and complex because how thin the gage of the sheet metal has become. A simple door ding caused from the same impact 5 years ago will now create a silver dollar or bigger dent on todays vehicles. Metal becomes more stretched and deeper with lighter vehicle sheet metal.

Advanced PDR training has become more of a need to cater to the big dent repair market. Dents are not getting any smaller and big PDR dent repair is becoming a rapid growth to learn for all PDR technicians. There seems to be a shortage of door dings and a public demand for cost-effective big dent removals without visiting a collision center. PDR (Paintless Dent Removal) is slowing transitioning in to "PCR" (Paintless Collision Removal).

Crowns & Highs - Paintless Dent Repair / Removal Training (PDR)

Crowns and pressure releasing is one of the most important factors to understand and learn about paintless dent repair. It is also the most overlooked lesson during a trainee's learning experience. Mainly due to not enough time during PDR training.

We show an introduction page from our Basic Line Board Manual regarding crowns. Not a whole lot to show but enough that you can tell what a crown looks like through our eyes and the line reflection. Our PDR training goes into depth about "identification." If you can't see it, how are you going to remove a dent completely?

In most cases, PDR techs who are not aware of crowns or simply don't see them, end up forcing a dent to come out. Unfortunately, that won't work. Instead the results are either a wave still visible or unwanted push marks. Identifying crowns and releasing pressure creates a smoother and faster repair which eliminates forcing a repair.

You must understand a dent wants to go back to its original shape. You just need to know why, how and where. Moving the board in different angles is one key but the details that are surrounding it is what puts it all together.

Our one-on-one PDR training explains in detail why you are missing what you're not seeing. If you are already a veteran PDR tech, you may want to purchase the Basic Line Board Manual before taking advanced training? Although again, there is no substitution for personal and one-on-one PDR training.

Our pdr manual is designed to give you more insight which can make all of a world of difference. If you have any questions regarding PDR training or the Line Board Manual, please visit denttime.com

Line Board PDR Training Manual - Paintless Dent Repair Removal

This photo above displays some of the pages you will see in the Basic PDR Line Board Manual.

If you are considering PDR, you might want to invest in this unique and professional PDR Line Board Manual. Although, this is no substitute for actual personal training but it will help you definitely get a clear picture about the paintless dent repair atmosphere itself.

We designed this line board manual to have professional diagrams so it can assist your learning abilities. We spared no expense when it came to an appealing style to this one of a kind manual. From superior examples to detailed explanations about techniques, you'll love every thing about this basic line board manual.

Our goal when we put this line borad manual together was to help anyone who read this manual (man or woman), become familiar and also learn something. From tool uses to the basic ding repair process, we keep you on your toes and wanting more!

What this PDR Manual is About.

Obviously it's about "paintless dent repair" (PDR). But what it is actually directed towards the "line reflection." Lines are a unique pattern we use to read the dent. Most PDR techs don't use lines. Why? Obviously they weren't trained on them from the start, haven't heard about lines at all, or don't quite understand the "line board" concept. Don't get me wrong, even if you use another reflection, this manual doesn't discriminate with other PDR techs. It actually helps a PDR tech gain more skill.

Lines Are For Everyone!

When we designed this manual, we wanted everyone to understand it easily. From a newbie to a veteran PDR fog tech, we feel confident that this will be one of the best manuals ever developed for the paintless dent repair industry. You'll enjoy and appreciate the details we spent to go the extra mile so you can benefit a better learning experience no matter what level you are about.

Personal Training & Manual

Students who choose to take our personal training programs are automatically receive the Line Board Manual. Before we train our students, we send out the PDR manual 1 week before they attend. This advantage actually begins the learning process much quicker. It also gives our students an accurate insight about the line reflection, so they will know what to expect. We create an exciting manual that matches an exciting training adventure!

If you would like to purchase a Basic PDR Line Board Manual, please contact Myke Toledo at 858.699.2054. We will be adding the new product to Auto Lecture for online purchasing soon.

PDR Line Board - Paintless Dent Repair /Removal Training

PDR Line Board - Paintless Dent Repair /Removal Training

What is a PDR Line Board you ask? Well it is a type of reflection (Striped Lines) used to read the damaged panel. Although it may seem intimidating, it's actually not once you are properly instructed about how it works.

Common Reflections

We must make a clear statement before we go any further. "There is no such thing as one reflection more superior than the other." There are several common reflections used such as Fog, Shadow, Pole with stripe, and too many others to name. The truth about reflections is how well can you read your own reflection? How well from the start when you were trained or when you get trained will be the most important.

Straight Means Fixed

When we teach Lines, we explain the use of the board in outside conditions. Why? Because in the real world, you won't have a nice comfy shop to work in. How many indoor dealerships do you know? But back to the topic. Lines dramatically show signs of curvature but there's a slight catch 22! You have to develop a trained eye. You can't just pop a Line board on a vehicle and think you can distinguish what to do.

Line patterns is what helps you as a guide. a line that is pinched, panel is indicating a high spot or going outward. A line that is fat or wide, indicates the panel has a low spot or indentation. Simple to say but hard to practice.

San Diego - Paintless Dent Repair - Removal PDR

San Diego Paintless Dent Repair / Removal (PDR) Technique using the Glue Pulling Method

This dent was caused by a person's body running into it. As you notice the dent has a massive and tight crown above it. In order to release stress from the crown, we used the glue pulling method for this type of paintless dent repair technique. Now the easy part was pulling the dent, no big deal right? Not really. Knowing exactly where to place the tabs can be tricky sometimes but more importantly, knowing how hard to pull. We used a 5lb slide hammer to do the job. One think you don't want to do, is over stretch the area. It could have been a done deal if we did.

Next was the hard part. If you are a current PDR tech, you'll understand there is always some sort of crowns on all dents. Some are more obvious than others. It took us 3 1/2 hours to tap down this crown even when most of the stress was taken off. It's a battle back and forth. Push, knock down, push, knock down. As the dent got smaller, so did the crowns by becoming harder to identify. In these cases, we place our line reflection back further to view the waves (high and lows) that tell us what is left. We used a soft tip tap down so we did not cause tap down pits. The metal is so soft, it was like a tin can. I hate soft metal. A big dent like this can make or break you.

All in all, it turned out pretty decent and the customer was very happy. For more information please visit our official website DentTime.com

San Diego Mobile Dent & Crease Repair

San Diego Professional Mobile Paintless Dent Repair and Crease Removal

Removing creases can be pretty tricky for the most part. Imagine taking a piece of paper, folding it and then trying to iron the line out.

Performing paintless dent repair with creases take precise tool tip control. We use a special and unique board called the "Lines." This line board basically is point of reference. It tells us where to push, if the metal is going outward or inward. As you watch the video, be aware the tool is being wedged between the impact beam and the skin of the panel. A very thin tool as you see in the video (whale tail) is used for applying pressure with one side of the blade. Perfect pushes blend the dent into the orange peel. Depending on how deep a crease is, the results vary between 90-100% removal.

If you are planning to have PDR done in the near future and you are not in San Diego, please note, repairs vary depending on the individual experience of your PDR technician. Find a local PDr tech in your area and visit reconexpress.com for a PDR tech near you.

Paintless Dent Removal at its Best San Diego

When it comes to deep and complex paintless dent repair, Dent Time is the specialist. Removing a body line dent like you see above takes a lot of experience and skill. Please be aware, performing this type of repair is not typical for most PDR companies. This is a very difficult repair to achieve w/out disturbing the paint finish.

How did we really do it? A few things are involved. We use a special line reflection that gives us tremendous detail about the dent itself. Reading the line board is probably the most important factor why this repair turned out successfully. The reflection of the lines give distinctive patterns.

Tools. Special designed tools are used to gain access behind the dent. We also use tools that gently tap down the area of the panel that indicates high spots to help the flexibility of the paint.

Experience.

Over time one can build a lot of experience but pushing the envelope beyond what is possible builds skill and consistent results. We always are up for a challenge when it comes to complex and advanced paintless dent repair. Not only we perform it we teach the skill as well.

We encourage if you have some photos you would like to get an estimate for please click here and you'll be taken to our main website.

Advanced Paintless Dent Repair/Removal Training PDR

Although this diagram demonstrates a tactical way to remove a big dent with paintless dent repair, it is highly recommended to get professional one-on-one PDR training to gain the fullest benefits.

This PDR dent was attacked using a glue pulling method and finished off with lots of crown work and precision pushing with steel rods. We would like to stress, there were many steps between the photos to get this dent completely out. A big dent like this requires high experience and patience to get satisfactory results. We will in the future post a video of how much of a monster and challenging paintless dent repair this was.

Knowing how to remove big dents is all about knowing how to finish. If you can’t finish a small pitted ding, you won’t be able to finish a big dent. Big dents have many elements that are involved in a repair such as; crowns, trapped pressure, knocking down, tool selection, where to start and how to finish.

If you have questions about advanced paintless dent removal/repair pdr training, please either visit denttime.com or post a comment and we’ll be glad to give some feed back.

The Cost of Paintless Dent Repair / Removal San Diego

Dent Time, LLC. The average mobile paintless dent repair and door ding removal cost in san diego depends on certain things. Some of the certain things that really matter or you should consider is quality before cost. The real truth about PDR is the experience or enexperience you will encounter from the technician who performs paintless dent repair on your vehicle. If you are not careful or choose the right company for removing your dings or that big dent, you could end up paying more than you bargained for.

Surely we understand cost is important. We all want a good deal don't we? We also want a great job to go along with it too right? Although a good deal is only a good deal if it's done right.

Here at Dent Time, we promote quality over price. Why? Because we understand (In most cases) you consider price first. What we know and understand more importantly is that in the end of the repair, quality is the most important. If the cost is low but the job was not done right, it wouldn't matter now would it?

Dent Time's prices are based on how sharp, location, type of metal (aluminum or steel) and access. Bigger doesn't always mean more expensive. For a typical door ding about the size of a quarter or smaller it varies between $85-$125. Now please understand, it again depends on how sharp, location, type of metal (aluminum or steel) and access. Multiple dings on multiple panles start between $150-$500. What is the average cost for dents? A dent would be considered anything larger than a silver dollar. These type of dents vary between $150-$500.

Learning Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) isn't Easy!

Are you thinking of learning or training in paintless dent repair or removal? Have you been looking around and getting information and getting the REAL FAQ's about PDR? In case you haven't, we would like to inform you the real truth about PDR training.

As easy as paintless dent removal may seem or look, it's not. Did you ever notice when somebody makes something appear so easy you think you can do it in no time? We thought so. That's because it takes time and experience to develop such a skill. It's the same with PDR. Not only does it take time to learn but more important, who you learn from and how much time you put in during and after your PDR training.

We here at Dent Time we know the many pitfalls and deceptions of paintless dent repair training. Our topic has multiple meanings about PDR not being easy. Here are a few we will discuss.

#1 Choosing the Right PDR Company for Training

BEWARE! Many so called schools try to entice you with hotel packages, free lunch, giant tool packages and accessories (we'll get to that later on another post). But what they really fail to concentrate on is the reason you're there, and that's good PDR training.

The Longer Your PDR Dent Training, The Better!

Time well spent is the essence. The longer you get to absorb what you learn the better your practice will become. Not to mention, your learning curve is much faster. Unless you are going to do advanced PDR classes, 4 weeks is the minimum you should take. Why you ask? Can you imagine learning years of experience from just one week? It's hard enough to learn in 4 weeks let alone in less. You see, if you don't give your self a chance to absorb what you learn, you'll forget in the real world. With most schools, you are totally alone after you complete your course. Fat chance of you getting a hold of the instructor when you're stuck too. There's a lot to learn.

Get a Hold of the PDR Trainer/Instructor

It's important you talk to the trainer or instructor before you actually commit your hard earned money. Bypass the sales person (Which should be a flag!) and ask for the person you are going to learn paintless dent repair from. This will tell you if they are really committed more than you! Ask lots of questions and we mean real questions.

Here are a few. Am I going to learn on all panels or just hood panels? Will I be working in the same environment/situation everyday? How much personal attention do you spend with me? How many people are going to be in my class? What is your success rate? Do you have other students that came from your school that can testify about your training? Do they have websites? Do you personally follow up on my progress after the training?

After asking these specific questions, you should have a good idea of what's to come.

Later we'll continue to post more topics about paintless dent repair training and interviews from other well respected PDR training companies.

Please feel free to ask any questions regarding your concerns and give opinions about this paintless dent repair/removal PDR training.
